Artist: Fausto Roma

Fausto Roma was born in 1955 in Ceccano (FR), where he still lives and has his studio, nestled at the edge of the woods, “on the outskirts of the town, between qardens and walled boundaries, between shadows and thef irst emerging suns.” After attending Art High School he became a student of the artist Auqusto Ranocch(Urbania,1931-Rome, 2011)at the Academy of Fine Arts in Frosinone. In Ceccano, among the beautiful hills of the Frusinateregion… Fausto Roma, by isolating himself from the bourgeois monotony of a provincial town, resisted the lure of the big city and with courage, without distractions, sought to carve out his own way of living and working. This choice is not limited to location or home alone, but from this decision he creates a consistent way of life and artistic practice.Fausto Roma researches and experiments in solitary meditation, with a hands-on approach that is essential to him, careful not to lose proper contact with what has been and continues to be sought in the field of art.

Since the 1970s he has worked as a painter and sculp.tor-although, as Sergio Rossi wrote, it is difficult to say whether Roma “is more a sculptor than a painter or rather a goldsmith, craftsman, poet, storyteller, anthropologist, given that his paintings are often multidi-mensional like statues and his statues are colored like paintings;”-working in his homeland, Ciociaria, while maintaining a cosmopolitan vision and approach, evi-dent both in his artistic research and his exhibition his.tory which-spanning fifty years-has crossed many geographical boundaries. He began experimenting with found materials, hinting at an in-depth study of Dadaism and a connection to Arte Povera, using implements typical of rural life, such as fish traps, but also industrial materials like bitumena mixture that would return throughout his career, especially in his recent works. From earlyon, Roma stood out for his use of symbol and sign, a true stylistic hallmark of the artist, who, driven by a marked anthropological and ethnographic interest alongside art historical studies-sought forms that rooted in specific cultures, embodied universal roots, timeless and without borders. His creative work continually propels forward while also reflecting on its own trajectory, demonstrating an ongoing artistic exploration through experimentation. This exploration stems from his sensitive perception and unique poetic expression, which set him apart from early on and have earned him international recognition.
